Q. How do I access an ebook?

Ebooks are accessible in different ways, depending on who owns it and from where they are sourced (e.g., ProQuest, EBSCOhost, JSTOR, Springer, etc.):

  • From the Libraries home page, search Discover or Discover Advanced for the keywords, title, author or subject of the eBook you are looking for.
  • If the eBook is owned by Smith, click on "Smith: Link to resource" or "Read this eBook" in the record to be connected to the full text. If it's owned by the Five Colleges (FC), use "Five Colleges: Link to resource" in the record. If you're off-campus you may be prompted to enter your Smith username and password.
  • If it’s owned by one of the other Five Colleges, it is only available to users from that campus.
  • Depending on the license from the publisher, some ebooks are only able to be read by one user at a time.

For more information, also refer to the ebooks section in the Find Online Sources research guide.
