Q. Can I access online resources at the other Five Colleges?

Each of the Five Colleges (Smith, Amherst, Hampshire, Mount Holyoke and UMass/Amherst) maintains separate online resource subscriptions.

Off-campus access for each institution is limited to the current students, faculty and staff of that institution. But, on-site use of online resources by on-site visitors (including Smith-users) is generally allowed.

To access an online resource not held by Smith: you (as a Smith-user) generally need to be on-site at the specific institution holding the online resource.

Please note these exceptions:

  • If registered for a course at another Five College campus, you, as a Smith student, can also access that campus’ online resources as a current student of that institution.

  • If the link to the resource says "FC" (Five Colleges), this is a resource anyone in the Five Colleges can access.

  • If you, as a Smith user, need access to an e-book, you can request that Smith place an order for a Smith-specific e-book copy: Book & Media Suggestion form
