Q. I need to pick a topic for my project/paper, using Special Collections material, how can I find out what is in Special Collections?

  • The collections are discoverable through our many databases and collection lists. See Search Special Collections for guidance.
  • Most of our collections are described online with both Discover Advanced Search and through our finding aids.
  • For questions about Special Collections, researchers also can contact the Special Collections staff directly at specialcollections@smith.edu.

Special Collections has a growing collection of digitized images relating to women's history dating from the early nineteenth century to the present. You can find some of these images in Five College Compass. These digitized images are only a fraction of the tens of thousands of original photographs, slides, negatives, postcards, scrapbooks, and artwork, as well as images in print sources such as women's periodicals and ephemera (broadsides, fliers, pamphlets, posters) that are preserved within Special Collections.
